Need an Answer? – Duplication, Replication or Ripping

What is the difference between CD / DVD duplication and Replication? Duplication is the burning of data or music onto a recordable disc. Replication is the manufacture or “pressing” of the disc and the data together.
What is better quality? Duplication or Replication? if grade A CD-R’s or DVD-R’s are used with industrial duplication equipment, the quality is equal to replication.
What are the benefits of CD or DVD duplication? CD or DVD duplication affords the customer of quick-turn low volume solutions, this is an advantage to replication where larger quantities must be ordered.
With CD or DVD duplication you can order only what you need at that time, knowing that a re-order only takes a day or two in most cases.
What about Bluray ? Duplication of Blu-ray discs is far more practical then replicating Blu-ray. Because of the costly setup with Blu-ray replication, it is only practical when extremely large quantities are required.
What is Audio Ripping? Audio Ripping is taking a collection of CD audio discs and converting (ripping) to a Digital format, such as Aiff or Mp3, this data is married with the metadata information that is pulled from online sources, this information (such as the album cover art and all the song titles) is save to either a USB-harddrive or a cloud location.

What is a Dual layer DVD (DVD-DL)? A dual layer disc (DVD-DL) is a the DVD recordable version of a DVD-9 the Dual layer DVD recordable  have 8.5 Gigabytes of data or video capacity. A DVD-DL disc generally will hold about 4 hrs of standard video. Dual layer DVD-DL discs are great for HD video applications. Unlike a DVD-R, you will need to have a video player that has the ability to play DVD-9, most players over the last few years are DVD-9 and DVD-DL compatible.

What is an ISO image?  ISO IMAGE is an archive file of an CD / DVD disc, a type of disk image which is made up of the data contents of an optical disc, including the optical disc file system. ISO image files usually have a file extension of .iso.  ISO image is the prefered digital format for sending disc contents via FTP or data download.

What is Dye-Sub Printing? Dye sub printing on CD-R, DVD-R or Bluray (BD25) disc. Is a direct to disc printing method, which yields a photo quality color finish. Dye sub or Dye sublimation is a water resistant 4 color process with a gloss finish.

What is Color Laser Label? color laser labels are a paper label that is printed with a Xerox Digital printer, affording a brilliant color label for your CD DVD or Bluray disc. Formats custom labels are made for us with a permanent adhesive that bonds to the CD or  DVD  disc.

What is the capacity of a DVD? a DVD-R (DVD-5) is rated at 4.7Gb (Giga bytes) capacity or about 2 hrs of standard video.

What is the capacity of a DVD-DL? A DVD-DL (DVD-9) is rated at 8.5 Gb (Giga bytes) capacity or 4 hrs of standard video.

What is Blu-ray, BD (Bluray) DVD Disc? The format was developed to enable recording of high-definition video (HD), as well as saving large data files. The BD format handle more than five times the storage capacity of standard DVD-5, and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. This extra capacity along with the use of latest video and audio codecs are required for HD video.

Standard optical disc technologies such as DVD, DVD±R, DVD-DL rely on a red laser to read and write data, the new format uses a blue-violet laser instead, hence the name Blu-ray. Even with the different type of lasers , Blu-ray DVD’s can be made backwards compatible with CDs and DVDs through the use of a BD/DVD/CD compatible optical pickup unit. The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it’s possible to fit more data on the disc even though it’s the same physical size as a CD or DVD. BD-25 technology is proving to be the most reliable, and cost effective format. Blu-ray is the proper designation, although some call it Blueray, which is incorrect.

How Much video will fit on a Bluray disc (BD25)?Over 4 hours of high-definition (HD) video on a 25GB disc.
About 12 hours of standard-definition (SD) video on a 25GB disc.

How much Data will fit on a Blu-ray disc?

A single-layer disc can hold 25GB.
A dual-layer disc can hold 50GB.
